APPROPOLIS, een expositie door drie kunstenaars gefascineerd door de veelheid van onze beeldcultuur. Vanuit deze interesse verzamelen ze elk op een eigen manier beelden en wordt de banaliteit van alle dag een vertrekpunt voor het eigen werk.
Zo ontstaan er sculpturen, schilderijen, installaties en fotowerken die kopieën of afgeleiden zijn van de vorm- en beeldtalen die zij onderzoeken.
Maxim Ryckaerts (1991° - BE) verzamelt restmaterialen en sporen. Het verzamelgebied strekt zich uit over de straat en de stad. In het gebruiken en verwerken van zijn verzamelingen wordt auteurschap en de eigen hand met voorzichtigheid bevraagd of soms zelfs volledig vermeden. (Maxim Ryckaerts (BE))
Wouter Sibum (1980° - NL) maakt foto`s van objecten in de publieke ruimte en verzamelt deze op zijn blog out / box. Deze database gebruikt hij om nieuwe ruimtelijke werken te maken. Door specifieke plaatsing en aanpassingen in de vormgeving krijgen de voormalige gebruiksvoorwerpen een andere functionaliteit. Matthias Yzebaert (1983° - BE) abstraheert en esthetiseert stereotype beelden en post deze op zijn blog Society of Copy. De beelden beschouwt hij als ruw materiaal om materiële werken mee te (laten) maken, vaak minimalistisch en decoratief van aard. 'Schoonheid is gelegen in vergankelijkheid'. APPROPOLIS, an exhibition by three artists fascinated by the multiplicity in our culture of images. Out of this curiosity they each gather material in their very own way, making the banality of everyday life a starting point for their work.
Like this, sculptures, paintings, installations and photographs originate which are copies or derivatives of the examined imagery.
Maxim Ryckaerts (1991° - BE) gathers leftover materials which are traces of the accidental and the unintentional. The area of gathering extends from his own atelier, trough street and city, into the deep den of the internet. In the usage and progressing of his collection, authorship and originality are questioned in a cautious manner or even avoided completely. (Maxim Ryckaerts (BE))
Wouter Sibum (1980° - NL) photographs objects in the public domain and gathers these on his blog called out / box. This database is used to create new spatial works. Matthias Yzebaert (1983° - BE) abstracts and aestheticises stereotypical images and posts them on his 'Society of Copy' blog. He looks upon these images as raw material to (let) make new physical works, often of a minimal and ornamental nature. 'Beauty lies in transiency'.
